Muharram

Alhamdulillah we have entered the new islamic year. We should be extremely grateful to ALLAH, that he allowed us to live another year. It is indeed, an opportunity and chance to change ourselves for the better and for the sake of ALLAH.

Al-Muharram is so called because it is a sacred (muharram) month; this further emphasizes its sanctity. The words of Allah (interpretation of the meaning): “so wrong not yourselves therein” [Surat at-Tawbah 9:36] mean: (do not wrong yourselves) in these sacred months, because doing so is a greater sin than at other times.

Ibn ‘Abbas said, concerning the words of Allah “so wrong not yourselves therein” (The command not to wrong yourself) applies in all months, then Allah singled out four months and made them sacred, and emphasized their sanctity, and He made sin during these months more grave, and He made righteous deeds and the reward thereof greater. Therefore, each one of us should strive to do good deeds as much as possible & refrain from sins too.

📌Here’s a little To-Do list for all of us:

1) Repentance from sins and changing ourselves for the sake of ALLAH:
New year, New me should not be just about improvising our physical & worldly aspects. Instead, it should begin with improving ourselves in our deen and preparing for the hereafter. Remember, it’s deen before duniya ALWAYS!!!

2) Prioritise Salah (No matter what):
Salah is indeed the first deed we will be held accountable for. Therefore, praying it on time and with khushu, must be our goal.

3. To fast, on the 9 & 10th/10th &11th of Muharram:

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “The best fast after Ramadan is in the month of Allah al-Muharram .” (Narrated by Muslim, 1982)

4. Engage in lots of dhikar and recite the Qur’an with understanding

5. Give out lots of sadqa.

6. Make lots of dua to ALLAH
Seek his guidance, blessing and aafiyah until the end. Remember the entire ummah in your duas.

7. Avoid every kind of sin:
Be it major or minor, a sin is a sin. And avoiding it, should not be just this month, but every single day for the rest of our lives. In shaa ALLAH
